Bacteriological warfare is not the most likely method of war but is possible. It is unlikely that an epidemic as bad as those passed could happen with the current sanitation and epidemiologic principles, but a purposeful outbreak could spread differently than a natural one. Zoonoses are especially concerning. It is cheap and easy enough to produce the pathogens that it is certainly possible and an attack would likely come through the aerial route.
