First Meeting of the United States Biological Warfare Committee
Item Details
Title
First Meeting of the United States Biological Warfare Committee
Topics
This meeting discussed liaisons with Canada and the British and also gave an overview of the development of the biological warfare program of the US.
Date
1944
Conclusions
There is development happening for both X and N toxin, but after January 1, 1945 we can only manufacture one or the other in quantities necessary to fill 500,000 bombs per month. Gas retaliation is also possible since we already know how to use it. In defensive measures, we have Types A and B toxoid for "X" (botulinus toxin), improvement in gas masks and protective clothing, a vaccine that looks promising for tularemia, psittacosis, and brucellosis, an immunization against "N" (anthrax) that looks promising, and success treating "N" with penicillin.
