Ready or Not? Protecting the Public's Health in the Age of Bioterrorism

Item Details

Title

Ready or Not? Protecting the Public's Health in the Age of Bioterrorism

Topics

This report examines the status of public health preparedness in the United States following the erosion caused by the financial crisis and ensuing budget cuts.

Date

2011

Conclusions

Many CDC programs and labs are experiencing budget cuts and as many as 51 cities may be entirely cut from the Cities Readiness Initiative. A WMD commission found that the United States is susceptible to a bioterrorism event, and the most concerning area is the detection and identification of an agent. True preparedness will require consistent and bolstered federal funding.
