Biodefense: Federal Efforts to Develop Biological Threat Awareness

This report describes the types of actions that key federal agencies have taken to develop biological threat awareness, and how that information is used to support investment decisions. It also describes the extent to which these agencies have developed shared threat awareness; and how DHS's NBACC determine what additional threat characterization knowledge to pursue.

Threat awareness is one of the four key areas of national biodefense and is made difficult by the vast and changing nature of the biological threat landscape. Threat awareness is important in prevention and protection activities, surveillance and detection, and response and recovery.
