Bacteria should rank first in the list of agents considered for biological warfare and offer a wide variety in terms of ease of production, stability, persistence, severity, duration, transmission, and availability of prevention measures and treatment. Possible methods to disarm a biological attack include, temperature, sterilization, desiccation, sunlight, osmotic pressure, filtration, disinfectants, and chemotherapeutic agents. Prompt detection is key for these to be effective.
