Ready or Not? Protecting the Public's Health in the Age of Bioterrorism
Item Details
Title
Ready or Not? Protecting the Public's Health in the Age of Bioterrorism
Topics
This report examines the progress that the government has made in its ability to respond to public health emergencies since 2003, with consideration to the fact it is a political transition year.
Date
2008
Conclusions
Congress has failed to deliver a sustained financial commitment to preparedness at the state and local level. The federal government fails to align policy with its own recommendations for individuals and households. For example, extended sick leave needs to be mandated for people to actually stay home when ill. The current federal emergency preparedness structure is too complex and needs untangling and organization.
