Ready or Not? Protecting the Public's Health in the Age of Bioterrorism

This is the fifth report in the series that seeks to assess the level of preparedness in the states, evaluate the federal government�s role and performance, and offer recommendations for improving emergency preparedness in case of a biological event.

On some measures significant progress has been made, but some areas still need improvement. There is a lack of publicly available data to assess public health performance in many states. The U.S. Congress has failed to deliver a sustained financial commitment towards preparedness. A public opinion poll shows that Americans have very little confidence in public emergency preparedness.
