Item Details
Title
Peace or Pestilence: Biological Warfare and How to Avoid It
Topics
Authored by Theodor Rosebury, the author of Experimental Air-Borne Infection. The purpose of the work is to inform the public about biological warfare in the face of a lack of government transparency.
Date
1949
Conclusions
In his risk assessment, Rosebury notes the tradeoffs of diseases that must be balanced and mentions specific diseases inadequate for BW. He generally believes that the potency, ease of production, and offensive applications of BW make it a substantial threat to national security that the US is not prepared to face. The author pushes for the prevention of war, and argues that BW research is more useful in times of peace.
